Surma, also known as kohl or kajal, is a cosmetic product that has been used for centuries in various cultures around the world. It is made from a mixture of natural ingredients, including soot, ghee, and various oils, and is applied to the eyes to enhance their appearance.

In Indian culture, surma is seen as having both aesthetic and medicinal properties. It is believed to have a cooling effect on the eyes and to help protect them from the harsh glare of the sun. Surma is also believed to have antimicrobial properties, which may help prevent eye infections.

Surma is particularly popular in South Asian cultures, where it is often applied to both the upper and lower eyelids using a small stick or brush called a surma stick. It is also commonly used in Middle Eastern and North African cultures, where it is applied using a small, pointed applicator.

In recent years, surma has become increasingly popular in the Western world as a natural alternative to conventional eyeliners and mascaras. Many modern formulations of surma are made without harmful chemicals, and are designed to be gentle on sensitive eyes.

While surma is generally considered safe for use, it is important to be cautious when applying it to the eyes. Always use a clean applicator, and avoid sharing Surma with others to prevent the spread of infection. If you experience any irritation or discomfort after applying surma, be sure to remove it immediately and seek medical attention if necessary.
